Hog Heaven has WONDERFUL BBQ as well as Fried Chicken! The sauces are all original and delicious. Nothing fancy, just great food!

Introduction to SC BBQ- and this place was great. Off the 17, and in the winter months a pretty small shack, with a great buffet, with tons of great sides. Highlights were the collards and the "Field Peas" (?). Pulled pork had 6 different BBQ sauce options- the best obviously being mustard or vinegar based ones. We got stuffed fast because we couldn't eat fast enough. My bro got a beautiful rack of ribs. There's a couple other options locally, but we were assured by the locals that this was the best! And cheap too! $9 all you can eat BBQ buffet! Trivia: the place is across the street from Bernard Beruch's Hobcaw Barony, 17,000+ acres of shooting preserve.

Staying in Pawleys Island on vacation and was taken to Hog Heaven for dinner. Food was delicious. Highly recommend the fried chicken, sweet potatoes and pulled pork from the buffet. Chicken was possibly the best I've ever had. We had the seafood sampler and the shrimp were outstanding. Service was friendly and on top of our drink refills and clearing off the plates. Staff didn't mind my two little kids running around the restaurant. As a Yankee vacationing down south I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning on my next trip down.

if you want to load up and eat good food this is the place to go. Good local variety of food, above a cafeteria level. A bargain for less than $10.00 for dinner. Everyone should leave full. Nice service AYCE is for the hungry. There are other menu items, so if you want to get things off the buffet you can. Fill er up here. Good for families too.

Best cocktail sauce I have ever had EVER! Get the all you can peel and eat shrimp steamed....you will not believe how good they are! It includes the buffet with everything ....make sure you are hungry. Local owned and operated!

Food was okay. Went there for the buffet but got turned off looking at it and also my shoes were sticking to the dirty floor. Some of the tables were quite dirty too and it was not crowded at all. Ended up getting two platters to go. The price is reasonable but I won't go back again. Fried chicken was crispy and moist however I could taste the grease in the crust which means it's cooked either in rancid oil or Lard. I didn't like the ribs at all (dry) and the three side dishes we had were not thrilling.

We are locals who eat out at least 5 times a week. Hog Heaven is our top spot anywhere in the world for fried chicken. The BBQ is adequate not great and the price is a bargain. If the owner was wise he would open a chicken only take out closer to where people are. The negative is the place is too far away. Also we regularly see a man who is either the owner or manager chain smoking cigarettes all over the back area. If we see him there we don't stay as its disgusting. Also the previous poster is correct as there are a number of creepy looking, sloppy dressed dudes hanging around staring. Most of the girls are very nice though. But....if you want the best fried chicken ever, take the road trip waaaaay down, get take out and get in and out of the building as quickly as possible!

Hog Heaven was certainly not a heavenly experience for me! For starters, the staff was RUDE, rude, rude! The restaurant was hot and unclean; just not much to look at, honestly. The sight of the buffet was unappealing, but the one saving grace is that the food was pretty good. The fried chicken was actually amazing. The skin was crispy and flavorful and the meat was cooked perfectly. The rolls were good, although they seemed like they came out of a bag. The veggies were unimpressive. The dessert options were great though! They had a couple of oreo type things and a banana pudding. I think this would be the perfect restaurant to if I were a local and I wanted a cheap, comforting meal. I'd feel perfectly comfortable going there in my jammies! However, for a dinner out on vacation, I was sorely disappointed.

We got a pound of pulled port to carry out and it was excellent: truly pulled not chopped to bits, good smoke flavor, nice bark, not too much fat. It had been mixed with a little vinegary sauce, which was unexpected but tasted great. They offer three heat levels of eastern NC sauce (vinegar/pepper) and one SC sauce (mustard), which was tangy as described but thinner than the usual SC mustard based sauce. All were good but we preferred the SC one. I recommend take out as the interior seating area seemed dark and gloomy. There was a buffet but we did not try it.

This'll do. Buffet was not spectacular but it was good. Fried chicken and pulled pork was very good. Banana pudding was tops. Crumbled nilla wafers all over the top. I'll be back.

Down home, baby! No frills hole in the wall with great fried chicken and good fixins. A must stop in Pawleys.

Sorry but nothing really was what I would rate as good. Over done veggies, bbg dry! Disappointing after being directed there by a bartender in Murrells Inlet.

I was on a road trip, and on my return, I knew I needed to stop by this place. It's hard to see from the road with a tiny sign, but make sure you stop by. Let's be honest. Roadside stands like this one are not Husk. Hog Heaven serves basic low country comfort food. With that being said, $7.25 for AYCE lunch buffet is a bargain, but AMAZING. They make an awesome fried chicken. Crispy skin, great texture, and juicy all the way through. I could only eat one thigh piece, as I was inclined to try a little of everything on the menu. The veggies were good, but all of them were salty and kind of remind me of stuff from a can. Definitely try the pulled pork. Fatty and incredibly juicy from the smoker they used out back. The waitress didn't know what kind of wood they use, but definitely try it with the Carolina vinegar bbq sauce they have at the buffet, or one of the other sauces they have at the table. Definitely try the South Carolina mustard bbq sauce. It's sweet, tangy, and vinegary. I would have bought a bottle to take home if TSA weren't going to confiscate it in my carry-on. The sweet tea is fantastic as well, with unlimited refills. Service was very friendly. This is definitely more of a locals only joint, but everyone was very nice.

One of the best BBQ buffets I have had in SC. I was with some prominent locals, so the service was great for us. I have seen in other reviews that the service was an issue. I though everything about the place was on point. I will go again for sure and highly recommend.

Service is Friendly. Good varieties of food, great location for large families. Best sweet potatoes and squash EVER! ONLY DOWNFALL IS THAT IT IS EXTREMELY HOT INSIDE!

Four stars for the quality vs cost comparison. Definitely well worth the price. BBQ purists won't be too impressed with the q but general eaters will like it fine. Most of the buffet is "southern fried" which is fine if that's what you had in mind for eats. Seafood is not their strongest offering so if fresh catch is what you have in mind then you might prefer the inlet or a trip south. It's not bad though if your group happens to want some variety. The decor is first class "out in the backwoods of East Podunk" style. Suitable for the eats and the folks there. Nothing fancy here. The staff is personable and efficient - sadly missing most places these days. Bottom line - it's old school locals country and a good example of that genre. Come hungry!

Not a bad place for BBQ. Its good for large families wanting to eat from a buffet. The rolls are good as well. I only wish they had beef BBQ.

Delicious! Consistently good BBQ, fried chicken and vegetables. We dine in or take out regularly and our out of town house guests love this place too!

We always get carry out. Food is excellent but the service sucks. Everyone there has an attitude. One jerk looks right at you and never says hello or anything. Sick of looking at the tweaker standing around doing nothing. Wish management would get if figured out because I love their sauce.

One of the reasons why we thought that staying at a janky Motel 6 paid off, down the street was this awesome joint! All you can eat southern BBQ & food for like $10 per person! Fried chicken, Carolina BBQ pulled pork and the works: coleslaw, mash potatoes, sweet potatoes, mac n cheese, three types of beans, collard greens, etc... Also, not to mention there was banana fosters and apple cobbler! Delish! Their sweet tea was also very good - super refreshing! It was a great bang for your buck, good atmosphere with superb table service (southern hospitality lived up to its name), and just so down to earth. I don't think I can look at southern food outside of the south the same anymore after this experience.

My family and I stopped here on the way back from Charleston. We went in and there is a sign that says to seat your self. After sitting down our waitress came to our table and took our order for drinks. After deciding what to get, we purchased 5 buffets for 2 adults 3 kids and a chicken basket. The buffet had fried chicken, macaroni, mini potatoes, greens, corn, sweet potatoes, salad, green beans, baked beans, banana pudding, jello, an Oreo looking, desert, pulled pork, and no rolls or bread. With all that said, there should have been more meat selection. Anyway, I fixed my plate and the kids as well. My oldest which is 12 did not like it. My 3rd oldest ate one plate and my youngest ate one plate of food. My son had the chicken basket with fries and said that is was great. That was good news considering how picky he is. The vegetables such as the greens and corn didn't have any flavor or seasoning. The items looked as if they were grown right in a garden which is a good thing. All the food was hot and the chicken was great. Very crispy and flavorful. Way better than that KFC! The Barbecue had a tart taste that I didn't care to much for but wasn't that bad. I even went for seconds on it. Our waitress was very nice and kept our drinks full and our table clean. We ended up ordering a chicken box to go for our daughter that wasted the buffet. I'll definitely visit again but without the kids. The total was around 60 bucks and I tipped 10 so grand total was about 70.

Best barbecue. The pork is high quality so you'll get lean meat in every bite. This is vinegar based barbecue and then you can choose your sauce. We like the spicy vinegar based sauce. Also love their coleslaw it's refreshing and not sweet.

The prices are so low, I can't figure out how they make a profit. If you're hungry, GO HERE. For the dope who left 1 star and a picture of himself with an empty plate, looks like you stuffed your fat face pretty good.

What a waste. 45 minutes in the car from Myrtle only to have awful food that is only outdone by the horrendous service. Highly not recommended. Buffet is a joke. Way too expensive for crap food.

SO good. This BBQ really hit the spot. I went for the lunch buffet. Everything I tried was awesome. I loved the fried chicken and the pulled pork with the mustardy sauce. I also particularly loved the coleslaw. The mac and cheese was ok, and the collard greens were very good. My only complaint is that it was a little confusing walking in - for the record, just have a seat anywhere and serve yourself from the buffet. The server will come around and fill a drink for you and also give you your check, which you can pay at the front. There was some outdoor seating which looked nice though noone was out there. The inside is really dark. Take a t-shirt and some sauce to go too!

  • JP S.

Good Ol' Lowcountry comfort food. Served from a buffet set... pulled pork, fried chicken and all the trim. Eat in or take it to go. They cater too. Nifty T-shirts if you are into that sort of thing. Servers are quite attentive with refills of drinks and sweet tea. Family owned and operated. Outdoor seating is available in tourist season. A little off the beaten path, towards Georgetown on way south on Hwy 17 after you get through Pawleys Island.

We were on vaca driving from Charleston to Myrtle Beach...and stumbled upon this gem. They had a BBQ buffet! Picnic table style seating....great food! My partner in crime loved it so much he kept a magnet on our fridge for years. Once you are done eating you can go out back....there is a bar, where people were shucking oysters. It was so deep woods deep south looking...it reminded me of a scene out of Adam Sandler's Waterboy! Since I mentioned Waterboy I have to throw this quote out there.... "well, snakes don't have PARTS, but if i had to call it anything, i'd say it's his knee" Good memories!

Great food Great service Great value our server was a great server! the sweet tea is great, the fried chicken is on point, the oysters were the best. looking forward to my next visit!!!

Best pulled pork! The fried chicken is awesome, too! The atmosphere is definitely lacking, but the food makes up for it. The staff is very friendly, but it's kind of confusing when you walk in because you don't know whether to stand in line at the counter or seat yourself.

Thought the que was decent, as was the sweet potatoes, and the field peas. Everything else was kind of "meh". I was content with the que though. Read my reviews and you'll see that I am picky. It was NC style, aka vinegar based, which isn't my favorite, since I am a mustard based man, but it was a solid representation of it. I'll def stop here again when passing by, but mostly for the que.

Do you want to get your hog on? I mean really get it on? This place delivers some real authentic hard core southern BBQ. Just walk in and order up a BBQ sandwich and a large sweet tea. They have several different sauces you can put on top, but it is best eaten plain. Free refills on the tea. Make sure to order a pound of BBQ to go. Get some extra sauces as well. Skip all the sides that they offer - not worth your time. On a side note, this place was started by some different owners, they were some old-timers back in the 1970s, raised in the country, who just loved their BBQ. The original name was Yum Youngs. These guys loved to get down with some serious swine. The BBQ was marinated and smoked over a open pit until the juicy meat was begging for mercy. They were only open on the weekends, and closed up shop once the BBQ ran out. You would eat on a beaten up old homemade picnic table. It had some real character!!! The new owners owe some serious kudos to the founders of this place. There is a lot of history between those walls.

We had the St Louis style ribs and the thick half was perfectly cooked but the smaller half was dry. Sides were good. NO ATMOSPHERE WHATSOEVER! Jeez at least paint some warm colors if you are going to light the place up like a hospital cafeteria. It was depressing to eat there. If ribs weren't so messy, we would have got them to go and ate them in our car.

Oh My Goodness! Great Food! Atmosphere could use a little updating but hey...great food food for an even greater price...Best fried chicken I've had in a while too! We had the buffet there several times now.

Stopped in for the lunch buffet on the way from MB to Charleston about 2pm. Most veggies tasted canned, although the husband said the new potatoes were really good. The pulled pork was not too good at all, I only took 2 bites-not a fan of the sauce on it. The fried chicken was good though. It was cheap, so I don't feel ripped off by this place, but I wouldn't return. As a side note, the back porch area looked fantastic for hanging out with an ice cold beer.

Had a late dinner there. Not too many folks there so we were a bit worried. Reviews about zero atmosphere were right. Nice people and food was good. We had a full rack of ribs, grouper bites, and a salad. Our friends had crab legs, all-you-can-eat shrimp, ribs, and the buffet. The buffet has pulled pork, fried chicken, and all sorts of comfort food starches. The salad bar is limited but fresh and fully functional. Prices are very reasonable. Good place to each too much. Friendly staff.

My wife and I have been enjoying a summer "BBQ tour" of BBQ places within an hour or two from our home in Mt. Pleasant. Between June 9, 2012 and Wednesday (August 1), we have visited 12 different locations. We've learned a lot along the way. The experience has been eye-opening. When you get to sample that much BBQ in such a short amount of time, you can really compare products. We have been writing at length about our experiences after each visit ( destination-bbq.com ) Hog Heaven is a place we stopped at after having just eaten at Little Pigs in Myrtle Beach. We weren't hungry, but since we were passing right by it, it seemed silly not to stop. We picked up a pound of pulled pork, a sampling of all the sauces, and a half slab of ribs. The pulled pork tasted good enough to help us decide we will return one day to give it a more complete review. The ribs...meh. Didn't care for them. I hear the fried chicken, however, is exceptional.

I found out about this bbq pit from my trusty guidebook. I LOVE pulled pork, so I made a beeline there pronto. We did the $7 lunch buffet. Yes - that's right a BUFFET for $7!! What a steal! The pork was good, but it was easily outshined by the fried chicken. Other highlights of the buffet were the collard greens, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese (which counts as a veggie down south) and of course sweet tea. Apparently popular with the locals, the place had a steady take-out business. It seems they have recently expanded inside to accomodate more people, but it didn't have the ambiance I was looking for. It's just basically a cinderblock hall. I was hoping for kooky character. Nothing fancy of course - but a few neon bar signs or some low-country cliche items tacked on the walls would go a long way, as would some music. When it wasn't packed, it was uncomfortably quiet. I would definitely recommend it, but would probably only eat in again when I am really hungry, or in the warmer months when you can eat at the raw bar outside where there's a bit more "fun" to the decor.

Oh man...if you're looking for authentic, low-country barbeque for a steal, this is your place! We stopped here on our way to Charleston - my wife, who grew up in the area, suggested we eat here for lunch. First of all...their lunch buffet goes for $6.99...I thought it was a typo! The place is definitely no-frills - basically a shack off Highway 17. But, in my opinion, these tend to have the best local food. The food is incredible...some of the best pulled pork BBQ I've had, and the vinegar-based sauces are perfect. Then there are the sides - mac 'n' cheese, baked beans, collards, black eyed peas - all of it was phenomenal. We loved lunch so much, we decided to grab take-out on the way back from Charleston for the rest of the family. Six people had a ton of barbecue, baked beans, and hash for our rice for just over $30. The only thing that kept Hog Heaven from receiving five stars - the staff. The girl at the register had that disinterested, "we know our food is awesome, now buy some and leave" attitude that was a bit off-putting. But hey - she's right about the food.

Talked to locals and they all said for the best area BBQ go to Hog Heaven. We went around 7pm and got the buffet. We were the only people in the place. The waitress was a grump and it looked like the food had been sitting there for a good while. The pulled pork was okay, but the real star of the show was the fried chicken. Sides were decent. Not sure if my expectations were too high, but I've had better BBQ.
